The tenth book assignment is Harry the Dirty Dog by Gene Zion. This online story is read by Betty White! Be sure to test when you're done reading/listening (link below). I always have them read a book three times before testing!
Harry is a white dog with black spots that gets into a bit of a predicament after he gets dirty. There are a many opposites in this book. Let’s focus on that today. Fold a piece of paper in half hotdog. Then fold the “hotdog” into three sections (see below). Unfold and trace your folds. Pick one of each set of words below and write in each box. Leave room for your student to write a word that mean the opposite of each word in the box. clean / dirty black / white inside / outside walk / run bury / uncover happy / sad *Extension activity- You can continue this activity on the back of the paper, coming up with your own sets of opposites, such as short / tall, on / off, etc. Write sentences with one or more sets of opposites. **To integrate art illustrate your favorite pair of opposites.
